Kimmel’s Take on Trump Feud: “I Feel Sorry for Him”
Veteran comedian and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has opened up about his ongoing, and at times heated, public exchanges with former US President Donald Trump. In a recent interview, Kimmel addressed the nature of their back-and-forth, admitting that the dynamic is largely one-sided. He also touched upon how this public sparring might affect his long-standing friendship with Adam Carolla, a prominent supporter of Trump.
“I love Adam, and he loves me, and I’ve just decided that if I could change his mind, I would try to do that, but I don’t think I can. I don’t think fighting with them helps,” Kimmel explained, referring to his differing views from Carolla.
When it comes to his feelings about the former President himself, Kimmel’s stance is notably different. “I don’t love him. I don’t hate him, either,” he stated. “I feel sorry for him,” the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! confessed. “He obviously didn’t get hugged a lot.” This sentiment suggests a view of Trump’s actions stemming from a place of personal deficiency rather than outright animosity.
The Escalation of Tensions
The public tension between Kimmel and Trump significantly flared up last year following controversial remarks made by the comedian concerning Charlie Kirk. This incident led to a temporary suspension for Kimmel by ABC. In response, Trump took to his Truth Social platform, launching into a series of rants and demanding Kimmel’s dismissal from his hosting duties.

This wasn’t an isolated event. Trump has continued to target Kimmel and other late-night television personalities. The former President once again called for Kimmel’s termination after the comedian made a joke about Melania Trump. As previously reported, Kimmel, who has also hosted the Academy Awards, staged a mock White House Correspondents’ Dinner on his show. During this segment, he quipped that the former First Lady possessed “the glow of an expectant widow.”

Tragically, shortly after Kimmel’s joke, a real-life security incident occurred. A gunman attempted to breach a security checkpoint at the actual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C. Fortunately, all attendees were reported to be safe.
Melania Trump’s Public Rebuke
Melania Trump herself did not shy away from publicly condemning Kimmel’s remarks. The former model issued a strong statement, asserting, “People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.”

She further accused Kimmel of cowardice, stating, “A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him. Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.”

Donald Trump amplified his wife’s statement on his social media, questioning, “When is ABC Fake News Network firing seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently presides over one of the Lowest Rated shows on Television? People are angry. It better be soon!!!”

In defence of his joke, Kimmel maintained that it was part of a “light roast” specifically designed to playfully highlight the significant age difference between Donald and Melania Trump.
Despite the former President’s frequent public criticisms, Kimmel secured a new contract last year that is set to keep him on the airwaves until at least May 2027, indicating a continued confidence in his presence and appeal by the network.
