The women of The View have voiced their growing frustration and disbelief at the persistent stream of male politicians entangled in scandalous behaviour. During a recent episode on Monday, June 1, the co-hosts delved into the latest controversy surrounding Graham Platner, a candidate for the Maine Senate. Reports emerged, allegedly from his wife, suggesting she had alerted his campaign to “sexually explicit texts” he had been sending to multiple women. While Platner and his wife have publicly dismissed these claims as mere “gossip” and presented a united front, the allegations have undoubtedly cast a shadow over his electoral aspirations.
“Are Men Okay?” The Panel’s Burning Question
The discussion quickly broadened, with co-host Whoopi Goldberg offering a wry observation: “Baby, these men are having the hardest time. It doesn’t even matter what side of the fence you’re on. These men are just whippin’ and racin’ all through the place.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin echoed this sentiment with a laugh, posing the pointed question: “Are men okay?” She continued, “I just thought, no shade gentlemen, but it just feels like y’all are out of control. Every time we turn around somebody’s got somebody else up against a wall, in the bed. What is happening?”
Ana Navarro chimed in, attributing the widespread feeling to a noticeable trend: “I think we feel like that because this year we have seen a lot of… men gone wild.”
Goldberg then alluded to a prominent political figure, adding, “And don’t forget the one at the top.” Navarro seized on this, remarking, “That’s true. All those Bible-clutching Christians voted for the guy who we all heard boast about sexual assault on video and tape.”
A Disturbing Trend in Politics
The conversation didn’t stop there. Navarro highlighted other male political figures who have faced significant controversy. She mentioned Eric Slawell, who withdrew from the California gubernatorial race amidst allegations of sexual assault. She also sharply criticised U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, labelling him “the scumbag from Texas” for alleged infidelity.
“It is disturbing and it is horrible,” Navarro stated emphatically. “Why can’t we do better? Why can’t we have better candidates?”
Griffin then elaborated on the Platner situation, noting that the sexting rumours were, in her view, the least of his alleged transgressions. She detailed a litany of other serious accusations against him, including:
- Trashing a Purple Heart recipient and suggesting they didn’t deserve to live.
- Defaming the late Navy Seal Chris Kyle.
- Downplaying the difficulties of reporting sexual assault within the military.
- Repeatedly using anti-gay slurs and posting homophobic content as recently as 2021.
- Referring to himself as a communist.
- Having a Nazi tattoo for two decades, which he has since covered.
“Just Stop Being Stupid!” A Plea for Decency
Sunny Hostin provided a concise summary of Platner’s alleged character flaws, labelling him a “racist, antisemite, cheater and a homophobe.”
As the segment drew to a close, Hostin delivered a passionate plea to the men in the political arena. “These are character flaws that I’m tired of hearing about. I’m tired of it. Just keep it in your pants,” the actress declared. “Just stop, stop, stop being stupid!”
The panel’s frank discussion underscored a broader societal concern about the conduct of men in public life, particularly within the political sphere, and a growing demand for higher standards of integrity and personal responsibility from those seeking public office. The repeated instances of scandal suggest a systemic issue that the co-hosts of The View believe needs urgent attention and a significant cultural shift.
